I really enjoyed the challenge of the holiday: beautiful walking along dry creek beds, sleeping out under the stars in a swag, no power and no phone for 5 days and a great set of companions - camels, cameleers and other guests! Never a dull moment with camels around!

The camel trek in the north Flinders Ranges was a wonderful and unique experience. I really enjoyed being up close with these animals. It was a lot more hands on than I had been expecting as the trekkers helped the cameleers with loading the camels each morning. It was a somewhat lengthy process. Food was plentiful and tasty, cooked over campfire coals. Sleeping in the swags was a bit uncomfortable at first but I soon discovered the pleasure of leaving it partially open at night so I could look out at the stars. There was no set itinerary for the walk - just a rough idea with the camels’ feed requirement determining where we camped each night. The countryside we walked through was dry but the geology and vegetation made it interesting (though beware the prickly plants). It is a beautiful though rugged part of Australia which is worth seeing.

Walking with Camels and the fantastic cameleers was amazing and very unique. Sleeping under the stars, meeting amazing people and exercising everyday, was unbelievable.

This is one of the most unique experiences I have ever done. From the first to last day (7 day trek) you were always in a state of amazement at the ever changing landscape that you were walking through. Ryan is an awesome host sharing his experience and knowledge, and constantly adapts each trip to accommodate not only the trekkers, but also the camels. His care for his animals is wonderful. Walking at a casual pace with a good amount of breaks, the days just seemed to slip by

We spent 14 days in July-August trekking with Ryan, Natalie, their camel family and Pixie the dog – one of the best hiking holidays of my life! Ryan’s itinerary was well planned in terms of daily distance with sites of interest along the way. Their gentle patience was remarkable as they helped us learn how to be with the camels and their different personalities, how to undertake daily chores, adapt to living outdoors and stay safe as a group. We learnt about geology, history of the Australian continent, stars, botany (lots of wild flowers to enjoy), zoology, pastoral practices, Aboriginal culture, local explorers and mining history…. I could go on! The delicious and varied meals that rolled out of those camp ovens every night were an unexpected bonus. Superb hosts, their professionalism shines through - highly recommended!

A huge thanks to Ryan and Nat of Flinders and Beyond Camel Treks for their professionalism, knowledge of the land, history of the region along with some astronomy and geology on my recent trek with them in early August. Their understanding and passion for their camels has certainly given me a different outlook for these gentle, graceful animals. Ryan and Nat are the perfect guides and hosts showing the beauty of the Flinders Ranges -nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend this trek.

A perfect holiday. Ryan and Natalie (and helpers) put together a great trip. Nat organised the awesome menu and Ryan led the trek. Ryan knew so much about the world: fauna and flora, astronomy, geology and of course camels! He was a gentle, kind and caring cameleer and a pleasure to walk with . Of course the highlight was getting to know the camels, plus the wide open spaces, dry creek beds, and vastness of the beautiful Flinders Rangers. Highly recommended!!!!

The trip was excellent. Great weather for outdoor living. Excellent care from Ryan, our Cameleer & guide and 2 support team. Great experience interacting with the camels. Confidence of Ryans knowledge in this remote region. Would recommend to anyone who likes outdoor living. Would go again if the opportunity arises. Thank you again for helping to make it happen. We will likely be booking this trip again.

Fantastic trip. Well organised. If you are an explorer traveler with a sense of adventure this is the trip for you. Sleeping under the stars and walking during the day in remote Northern Flinders with a Camel train. You’ll develop a bond with the Camel and appreciate what a magnificent animal they are. Highly recommended

This trip was fabulous. Not only are you getting to experience the beautiful Flinders Ranges away from the usual tourist spots But it is hands on. You learn the idiosyncrasies of the camels and fall in love with each and every one of them. It was hard to say goodbye. You marvel at Ryan’s relationship with them and his patience to share his knowledge and experience with all of us. Danny and Katie were excellent assistants and entertainers. Can not rate the whole adventure more highly. Over too soon

A quirky trip that shows the wonderful Flinders landscape and the peculiarities of camels, which have individual personalities and can be far more friendly than you would think - even to the point of being big puppy dogs at times. Both Ryan and Nat are clearly passionate about their camels and keen to showcase their nature.

A unique walking experience in the depths of Australia’s outback. Working with the camels to get you to places most people will never see, guided by the extremely knowledgeable Ryan McMillan, is something I will never forget.

Four ladies from Mandurah WA completed the Grindstone Range trek from June 1st to the 16th, with the amazing team of Ryan, Kym and Melanie. We saw incredible scenery from river beds full of rocks and fossils and lined with river red gums, ruins of former station buildings and hills covered with cypress trees. The food cooked by Ryan in camp ovens on coals was delicious and well planned by Natalie. Swags were comfortable and kept out the occasional nights of ice and rain we experienced!

We enjoyed meeting the camels with their different personalities. A great adventure and we’d recommend doing this trek to experience and see parts of the Flinders Range, normally not accessible to the public. Thanks very much.
